Chronic Pain & Tension
Massage & bodywork sessions are customized for pain relief, release of tension patterns, and realignment of the body. Modalities may include cupping therapy, Shiatsu, Swedish massage, acupressure, deep tissue, and/or myofascial release.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is a traditional bodywork technique used for thousands of years by many cultures around the world. It provides negative pressure to allow circulation in and out of stressed areas for both detoxification and rejuvenation of the tissues.
My style of cupping therapy integrates stimulation of traditional acupressure points for whole-person health along with modern discoveries about myofascial anatomy. Techniques including dynamic cupping (range of motion exercises), gliding cupping, gua sha, deep tissue, magnetic acupressure, & myofascial release may be included in your custom session.
This type of bodywork session involves using oil along with Swedish massage techniques to assess and treat the tissues. It focuses on physical tissue health & alignment of the body with attention to muscular recovery, joint health, & myofascial structure. Facial rejuvenation and internal health (digestion, hormonal balance, immunity, etc.) cupping sessions are also available.
There are several types of cups I use, but primarily find the silicone cups of various sizes the most comfortable and effective for the body, while specialized, extra smooth glass cups are used for the face, neck, and for small children.
Wellness, Detox, & Immunity
From enhancing digestion to promoting lymphatic circulation to supporting immunity, cupping therapy has been used in many cultures for hundreds of years. Cupping therapy and acupressure techniques are integrated to focus on your health & wellness goals.
Pain Relief & Injury Recovery
Integrating myofascial release, modern anatomical research, and range-of-motion techniques, this cupping therapy approach not only releases painful areas of tension, but targets connected muscle groups and myofascial lines for lasting relief and helpful changes in body alignment.
Facial Rejuvenation
Specialized smooth, glass cups designed for delicate areas of the face and neck help drain stagnant lymph, bring fresh circulation, and support collagen production. 1-2 sessions/week for 10 sessions is recommended as an initial program, although most clients begin to see benefits after just 1-2 sessions.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese acupressure massage tradition with a focus on balancing energetics of the organ-channel systems for overall wellness & vitality.
It is similar to an acupuncture treatment in terms of overall relaxation, supporting proper flow of Qi (proper physiological function), and stimulating an internal healing response from within.
Shiatsu is a meditative-like experience for your mind and body to re-align and harmonize, to cultivate deep self-connection and revive your inner self-healing capacities. While it is a touch technique which can relieve pain and other physical ailments, its focus is one of subtle-energy (Qi) revitalization.
Shiatsu is performed through loose, comfortable clothing (cotton or linen preferred) and does not include use of oil. The focus of your session can include relaxation, digestion, hormonal balance, sleep, energy, immunity, mind-body connection, emotional regulation, or general wellness.
An Acupuncture Alternative
Acupuncture is a profoundly useful healthcare technique, and well-trained acupuncturists work with patients to ensure comfort during treatment. However, some patients still prefer acupressure techniques, instead of needle insertion. Shiatsu, Shonishin, and other acupressure techniques offer a surprisingly effective alternative for acupuncture treatment to support various health goals.
Relaxation & Grounding
Shiatsu is most notably renowned by my massage clients as incredibly relaxing. Through rhythmic application of acupressure along connective tissue lines, the nervous system is soothed. Many clients fall asleep or go into a deep relaxation state, and find this effect alone to be wonderful. It is a great way to help train your nervous system to relax and ground itself more easily.
Wellness Through Balance
Applying acupressure continuously down naturally-conductive fascial lines may help move piezoelectricity through the body in places where it gets stuck. Through a traditional lens which believes that that health is achieved through balance, Shiatsu is thought to help move Qi out of places where it is overabundant and stuck and encourage it to nourish areas of deficiency in the body.
